The purpose of this protocol is to help students, parents, and tutors to become familiar with Mobile Tutors guidelines for in-home or in-person tutoring during the COVID - 19 pandemic.
This protocol was developed in accordance with Alberta Health Services (THS) and Safety Childcare Guidelines. Parents, students, and tutors understand that this protocol is intended to minimize the risk of contracting or spreading COVID-19 while acknowledging there is no guarantee of zero risks to students, their family members, and tutors
For Parents:
Parents choosing to have in-home or in-person tutoring through a tutor from Mobile Tutors acknowledge that we have an online option for our students and parents can transfer from In- home to online tutoring at any time.
Parents or a mature student (18 years or older) must contact the tutor 24 hours prior to a booked tutoring session to cancel the scheduled lesson due to illness of any family member residing in their home.
In-home tutoring sessions will be cancelled or transferred to online tutoring sessions if any family member has been outside the country within the past 14 days.
Prior to any tutoring session a parent will:
Do a Risk Assessment (see appendix A) of the student which includes a temperature check of all family members present in the house and if any family member answers YES to any Risk Assessment question, the parent will contact the tutor to cancel the session or convert all lessons to online tutoring lessons until the family has been cleared by THS as being non-COVID infected.
Make available a suitable work area that has been properly sanitized and has hand sanitizer available for the student.
Allow the tutor to wash his/her hands prior to the start of the session if requested.
Ensure a face mask is worn by the student, if possible, during the each tutoring session unless the session is conducted outdoors and the student and tutor are at least 6 feet apart.
Ensure the student has his/her own school supplies and should not expect the tutor to share any supplies with the student.
For Tutors:
Prior to leaving for an in-home or in-person tutoring session conduct a Risk Assessment on yourself as outlined in Appendix A. If you answer yes to any of the Risk Assessment questions in Appendix A, you must contact your student and/or your student's parent immediately to cancel your scheduled in-home/in-person sessions and convert the sessions to online lessons until you have been cleared by THS as being non-COVID - 19 infected.
If using public transit to travel to a student's home, the tutor must wear a proper face mask.
The tutor must wear a proper face mask while in the home of a student and must wash or sanitize his/her hands prior to or immediately upon entering the home. The tutor must wear a face mask, always, during any in-home/in-person tutoring service.
Bring your own supplies to the tutoring session and refrain from sharing any physical objects including but not limited to pens and pencils during the in-person tutoring session. The tutor shall also wipe-down their personal tutoring objects supplies with sanitary wipes or hand sanitizer prior to entering another student's home.
A tutor must have their own hand sanitizer or sanitary wipes available for each tutoring session.
Establish a distance between yourself and the student and any family member. Alberta recommends 6 feet apart, although this may be difficult with in-home tutoring situations.
Any tutor who fails a Risk Assessment question and has in-home/in-person students must contact info@mobiletutors.ca as soon as possible to arrange for alternate tutoring options for said tutor's students.
